Jan Baptist Weenix (1621-1660) was a Dutch painter who specialized in landscapes, still lifes, and hunting scenes. He was born in Amsterdam and was the son of the painter Jan Weenix. He was trained by his father and later by Claes Moeyaert.

Weenix's early works were mostly still lifes, but he soon turned to landscapes and hunting scenes, which became his signature subjects. He was particularly interested in depicting animals, and his paintings often show dead game, such as birds, hares, and deer, as well as hunting dogs.

In 1643, Weenix became a member of the Guild of Saint Luke in Amsterdam. He worked for various clients, including wealthy merchants and aristocrats, and his works were highly prized. He was particularly successful in Italy, where he lived and worked from 1649 to 1652. During this time, he was influenced by the Italian Baroque style, which is evident in his later works.

Weenix returned to Amsterdam in 1652, where he continued to paint hunting scenes, landscapes, and still lifes. He also taught painting to his nephew, Melchior d'Hondecoeter, who became a well-known animal painter.

Weenix died in Amsterdam in 1660, at the age of 39. Despite his relatively short career, he was a prolific painter, and his works are now held in museums and private collections around the world.
